Nicklas Bendtner has been assured by Arsene Wenger that he is still a major part of the Frenchman’s plans despite a lack of recent first team opportunities. The Danish striker voiced his frustrations in an interview and made it clear he would move clubs if the situation didn’t improve prompting his manager to clear the issue up.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved to rubbish rumours that Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner could leave the Emirates in the near future.
The Danish striker was quoted as telling the media in his homeland last week that he may have to leave the Gunners in order to guarantee first team football, however Wenger has moved to rubbish any exit reports.
A number of reports intimate that Serie A giants Juventus were leading the chase for the Arsenal striker, however Wenger believes the 22-year-old is a big a part of the Gunner’s future.
Wenger told Arsenal.com: “I have known Nicklas since he was 16 years old and I have a good rapport and good communication with him,” said Wenger. “I want him to stay.
“I like him as a player and as a person. Even if I do not necessarily agree with all his statements, I want him to stay and be part of the group.
“It is very difficult when you meet a player that says he doesn’t want to play more when he doesn’t play. There is nothing really special in that.”
Wenger also spoke about the Dane’s injury and why he was missing from the trip to Everton: He said:
“He was not in the squad against Everton because he had a little groin problem and I left him at home. I don’t know [whether he will be part of the Danish national squad].
“They can call him up and check his condition. I would prefer him not to go. He would prefer to stay as well.”
Nicklas Bendtner has threatened to quit Arsenal unless he gets more first team opportunities – and the news has put Serie A outfit Juventus on alert. The 22-year-old’s comments, which were made to a Danish newspaper, are thought to have taken manager Arsene Wenger aback, not least considering that the striker has only recently returned from a long-term injury and has failed to communicate his frustrations in person. According to The Telegraph, Bendtner said: “If the situation doesn’t change and I’m still on the bench at Arsenal, I’ll look for a transfer. That’s obvious. But my first priority is definitely – as it has always been – to play for Arsenal. I’ve had a lot of patience and I won’t sit on the bench anymore.” He also added that he was “100% good enough” to feature regularly in the Gunners’ starting line-up.
